You may have noticed road construction works in Johannesburg’s Region E, comprising of areas such as Fourways, Norscot and Bryanston. The JRA has undertaken to rehabilitate and reconstruct old streets in a six month project which started in February this year scheduled to be completed in August.
The scope of the Region E resurfacing project includes road rehabilitation and reconstruction, asphalt overlay and the repairing of kerbs, at a cost of R16 393 784.
“The JRA is the custodian of all roads infrastructure within the City of Joburg and preservation of existing infrastructure is our priority. This project will improve movement of traffic and pedestrians flow and the risk of vehicles being damaged by potholes and other road defects will be alleviated” said JRA Managing Director, Dr. Sean Phillips.
In regards to traffic, most of the streets are in quiet residential areas and there will be minimal traffic disturbance except for William Nicol. For the first four months (March – June 2016) road reconstruction work will take place on the streets with no traffic, the residents will be informed through the Ward Councilor of the dates on which work will be happening in their areas. Work at William Nicol will be done on the last two months (July-August 2016) of the project. A Traffic Management Plan has been drawn and will be communicated to road users.
