Major upgrades on the M2 West are estimated at R30 million and will be completed by 15 December 2017.
The road is being widened for road users between Treu Road, Park Drive and Crownwood Road and a dedicated new lane from Church Street up to the M1 and M2 Motorway will be added.
Upgrades are aimed at easing congestion using the M2 and linked extensions providing easier access to this key route. Major roads and linked to this freeway include national, provincial and municipal roads within Joburg, like the M1, M2, M7, N1 and R24.
Construction work will be undertaken at night so that traffic flow is not disturbed. Lane closure will run from 19:00 – 05:00 daily.
Upgrades to be implemented:
• Main Reef/Church: Additional left lane from the northern approach on Church Street
• Main Reef/Church: An additional left turn lane from the eastern approach on Main Reef Road
• Main Reef Road: A continuous slip from Main Reef Road west into the M2 Ramp
• Main Reef/Press: An additional left turn lane from the southern approach of Press Avenue into
• Main Reef Road
• Main Reef/Press: An additional left turn lane from the eastern approach of Main Reef Road into
• Press Avenue
• Main Reef/Press: An additional through lane from the western approach of Main Reef Road
• Main Reef/M2 inbound: An additional right turn lane from the M2 into Main Reef Road
• Main Reef/M2 inbound: An additional through lane form the eastern approach of Main Reef Road
• Main Reef/Hanover: An additional through lane from the eastern approach of Main Reef Road
• Main Reef/Treu: An additional through lane form the eastern approach of Main Reef Road
